The Austin Bar’s newly formed Insurance Law Section met for its inaugural CLE and bar-year kickoff event on May 29 at Hilgers House.

The Texas Crime Lab Records (CLR) Connect portal (which is pronounced Texas “Clear” Connect) is a statewide initiative being developed by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) in response to Senate Bill 991, passed during the 88th Texas Legislative Session.

An Austin nonprofit has partnered with a law firm in order to provide reduced-cost legal services to marginalized communities.

The Austin Bar is now accepting nominations for its Distinguished Lawyer and David H. Walter Community Excellence awards. The winners of these awards will be honored at the annual Austin Bar Foundation Gala in January 2026. You can nominate yourself or a colleague. Nominations close Sept. 15 at 5 p.m.

Kurt Metscher is a 36-year-old family law attorney in Austin. His addiction challenges started in high school, first with marijuana, then amphetamines. After an incident in college, he entered treatment. Initially planning to return to his addiction once his probation was over, he gradually found himself enjoying the sober way of life. He wants people, particularly law firms and partners,
