AYLA recently sat down with AYLA member Beverly Bass, an attorney at Munsch Hardt Kopf & Harr.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your law practice.
I am an associate at Munsch Hardt Kopf & Harr, P.C., a Texas-based law firm with offices in Austin, Houston, Dallas, and Fort Worth. My practice focuses primarily on bankruptcy, insolvency, and restructuring matters, where I represent a diverse range of clients including corporate bankruptcy debtors, creditors, and Chapter 7 trustees.
How long have you been involved in AYLA and what has been your best AYLA experience so far?
I joined AYLA in the fall of 2022. My best AYLA experience to date was attending the Holiday Gift Wrapping event in December 2025 at the Holiday Wishes Space.
It was a meaningful opportunity to give back to the community while also connecting with fellow AYLA members in a relaxed, service-oriented setting. I appreciated the ability to build genuine professional relationships while making a positive impact beyond our daily legal work.
What was your childhood dream job?
Truthfully, I’m not sure I ever had a single dream job. Pop star was probably on my list, given my love for coordinating choreographed dance performances for my parents.
Professional athlete was another possibility. I loved watching the University of Arizona Wildcats softball team during their heyday with Jennie Finch, and for all the UT fans, I also loved watching Cat Osterman.
What are some of the things you enjoy most about living in Austin?
What I enjoy most about living in Austin is the city’s remarkably dog-friendly culture and the abundance of outdoor activities available throughout the year.
It has become part of my weekend routine to take my dog to Zilker Park or Onion Creek, often stopping by Desnudo for coffee along the way.
What’s your best piece of advice for young attorneys?
My best piece of advice for young attorneys is to seek out not only mentors, but also champions.
While mentors provide invaluable guidance and advice, champions actively advocate on your behalf—whether by recommending you for leadership positions within professional organizations, sending referrals your way, or speaking highly of your work to others in the legal community.
Cultivating relationships with individuals who believe in your potential and are willing to invest in your success can be transformative for your career. I encourage young attorneys to be intentional about identifying and nurturing these relationships.
