Texas Legal Services Center (TLSC) is pleased to announce the next installment of its statewide event series: TLSC Film Nights Presents: A Few Good Men at the Alamo Drafthouse Slaughter Lane location on Nov. 13 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. to help support its life-changing work with low-income Texans by providing free, high-quality legal services to thousands of Texans.
For nearly 50 years, Texas Legal Services Centers’ work has impacted thousands of low-income Texans annually in their time of need. Currently, Texas Legal Services Center operates 13 programs that touch nearly every aspect of civil law. Whether it be through its Texas Law Help program, which provides high-quality legal assistance to more than five million people annually, or its Legal Kiosk program, which is in more than 40 communities throughout the state. We also operate Texas Free Legal Answers, where attorneys can answer legal questions from the community with the support of Texas Legal Services Center staff.
In March of this year, TLSC launched its first-ever fundraising event, TLSC Film Nights Presents: To Kill A Mockingbird, to raise the critical funds and awareness to support Texas Legal Services Center and its mission. Thanks to our sponsors, DJC Law and Armin Salek, the evening was one to remember as nearly 100 guests packed the Alamo Drafthouse Village to be inspired by Harper Lee’s classic tale of the importance of justice and doing the right thing.
The event was so successful that TLSC hosted an event in San Antonio, in conjunction with Bluebonnet Fiber, the San Antonio Bar Association, St Mary’s Law School, San Antonio Young Lawyers Association, and San Antonio Legal Services Association (SALSA) on Sept. 4, where we hosted nearly 100 people to experience TLSC Film Nights Presents: Legally Blonde in all of its law school glory. The crowd was inspired by 2024 Austin Woman Magazine‘s “Woman to Watch” honoree Leah Wise speaking before the event, and even enjoyed the Alamo Drafthouse’s legendary Bend and Snap cocktails, which added a little sparkle to an already magical evening. The funds raised at this event were divided between Texas Legal Services Center and SALSA to support legal aid at the state and local level.
Because of the universally positive reception of these events, TLSC has decided to bring the event back to Austin with two events in the next few months: TLSC Film Nights Presents: A Few Good Men on Nov.13 and TLSC Film Nights Presents: On The Basis of Sex on March 4.
TLSC Film Nights Presents: A Few Good Men will work to raise awareness of the needs of our veteran community, with three-star Gen. Gwen Bingham telling her story at the event as well. This promises to be an inspiring evening and a profound way for us to honor those who served our nation, raise awareness of Texas Veterans Legal Aid Week (Nov. 10-16) while enjoying one of the great legal classics on the big screen. The event will also likely have one of its Legal Kiosks for guests to check out.
TLSC Film Nights Presents: On the Basis of Sex, which will be at the Alamo Drafthouse Village on March 4 from 5:30 to 9 p.m., will also serve as its Amplify Austin kick-off celebration as TLSC works to raise the unrestricted funds it needs to continue to expand serving our community.
Both events will feature a happy hour for guests to socialize and learn more about the impactful work that Texas Legal Services Center does throughout our community.
Texas Legal Services Center is also fielding interest to bring this event to Houston in May of 2026 and back to San Antonio sometime in late 2026. The long-term goal is for the event to be hosted in every major Texas city throughout the year and to eventually have the event become an all-day event with a corresponding CLE/clinic, a luncheon, and a happy hour before we all enjoy another legal classic.
If your law firm or organization is interested in participating in a fun and innovative way to give back to the community, reach out to Jonathan Panzer, TLSC’s development director, at jpanzer@tlsc.org or 512-825-2846, and we can all help bridge the access to justice gap across the state!
